Old Fashioned

Ingredients:
2 parts Maker’s Mark Bourbon
1 sugar cube (or ½ part simple syrup)
2 dashes Angostura Bitters
Orange peel (for garnish)
Ice cubes or one large ice cube

Method:
In a rocks glass, place the sugar cube and add 2 dashes of Angostura bitters.
Muddle the sugar and bitters together until dissolved. (If using simple syrup, just stir them together.)
Add 2 parts Maker’s Mark bourbon and a large ice cube (or a few smaller ones).
Stir gently for about 20–30 seconds to chill and slightly dilute the drink.
Express the oils from an orange peel over the drink by squeezing it, then drop it in as a garnish.

Garnish: 
Old fashioned glass, orange zest and ice.

Ingredients:
2 parts Maker’s Mark Bourbon
¾ part Honey Syrup (see below)
¾ part Fresh Lemon Juice
Ice cubes
Lemon peel (for garnish, optional)

Method:
Fill a shaker with ice cubes.
Add 2 parts Maker’s Mark, ¾ part honey syrup, and ¾ part fresh lemon juice.
Shake well for about 15 seconds until chilled.
Strain into a rocks glass over fresh ice.
Garnish with a lemon peel, if desired.

Honey syrup:
Mix 2 parts honey with 1 part hot water.
Stir until fully dissolved, then let it cool before using.

Garnish: 
Old fashioned glass with big ice cube or strain in chilled martini glass

New York Sour

New York Sour

Ingredients:
2 parts Maker’s Mark Bourbon
¾ part Fresh Lemon Juice
¾ part Simple Syrup (see below)
½ part Red Wine (dry, like Malbec or Cabernet Sauvignon)
Ice cubes
Lemon wheel or cherry (for garnish, optional)

Method:
Fill a shaker with ice cubes.
Add 2 parts Maker’s Mark, ¾ part fresh lemon juice, and ¾ part simple syrup.
Shake well for about 15 seconds until chilled.
Strain into a rocks glass filled with fresh ice.
Slowly pour ½ part red wine over the back of a spoon just above the drink’s surface, so it floats on top.
(Optional) Garnish with a lemon wheel or cherry.

Simple syrup:
Mix 1 part sugar with 1 part hot water.
Stir until fully dissolved, then let it cool before using.
